Finding Gratefulness (and Laughs) in Covid 19

The healing power of laughter and gratitude cannot be underestimated, especially now.  Let’s all remember to say thank you again and again to all of our first responders and health care workers - maybe this means posting words of encouragement on their social media page, or calling someone and telling them how much they are appreciated and loved.  And there are plenty of ways we can help folks. The Food Bank of NYC is helping deliver much needed resources to those in need.  Let’s do all we can!

For our personal happiness, we must savor those smiles and funny moments, which our children surely provide us with.  We reached out to our SSP families to see what you are most thankful for…..and what those new “coworkers” up to while you are trying to work. Get ready to smile.

What are you most thankful for?  Here are your responses, in order of popularity!

  • Family
  • Love
  • Health
  • Community
  • Home
  • Connection
  • Sunshine
  • Disney+
  • Time spent at home with our toddler
  • Food
  • Coffee
  • Together
  • Elmo
  • My daughter(s)
  • Sunshine
  • Parents
  • Courage
  • Doctors
  • Kids
  • Our Dog
  • Life
  • Stability

And very importantly, what are your kids/“coworkers” doing while you are trying to work?

  • My coworker wears pajamas all day - or nothing at all.
  • My coworker keeps trying to slam my laptop shut while shouting "no more work no more work!"
  • My coworker is redecorating the "office" with dinosaur stickers.
  • My coworker waits for the Zoom call to start then sits under my legs yelling “MAMA I POOPED”
  • My coworkers are singing and dancing in the background while I'm on a work video conference.
  • While in a video conference, I heard my coworker exclaiming “the eggs are hatching” from the living room. Sure enough, a dozen eggs had “hatched” all over the floor.
  • My coworkers have “rest time” (free play in bedroom) and online study time
  • My coworker just picked his nose and ate it.
  • My coworker climbed on my shoulders during a Zoom conference and started pulling my hair.
  • My coworkers are running and screaming through the hallways, chasing each other.
  • My coworker took over my laptop (as she does everyday) and typed gibberish while I was chatting with my manager on IM.
  • My coworker bit me then demanded I console him because I scared him when I cried out in pain.
  • My coworker is trying to put his foot in his mouth, literally.
  • My coworker won’t stop drinking on the job. (Milk only—but still!)
  • Trying my hardest to entertain him and keep him awake while he does tummy time.
  • My coworker just ran around the room in her diaper screaming "NAKIES!" Just letting us know she's naked.
  • My coworkers are using their feet to turn the pages of their book....again. At least they’re working together.
  • My coworker was actually busy working on her own assignments.
  • My coworker keeps pulling my shirt down to get my boob during Zoom calls.
  • My coworker just loudly pooped his pants while I was on a video conference call. My manager looked concerned.
  • My coworker walks around in underwear all day while kicking around a soccer ball.
  • My child is engaged in remote learning.
  • I'm furloughed so Benjamin and I are living with my parents in Buffalo for now. He's doing great and just tried cereal today. He's loving all the attention from my parents and it's great for us to get some help with him.
  • My coworker won’t stop smiling at me wanting to play.
  • My coworker is on the floor crying because she wants more Cadbury eggs.
  • My coworkers are fighting and screaming over toys!
  • My coworker can’t stop singing during the meeting.
  • My coworker likes to rearrange my drawers and closet.
  • My coworker was blowing raspberries continuously during a conference call. I was NOT on mute as I was the host.
  • Today my coworker threw up on me, screamed in my ear, and slept all afternoon. It was a good day.
  • My coworker stuck her fingers in my mouth every time I tried to speak to the client.
  • My coworker stroked my leg, in what I thought was an affectionate gesture, until I realized that he was just using me as a napkin to wipe peanut butter off his fingers.
  • My coworker sat there biting on her fist while I try a home workout
  • My coworker just urinated on the break room chair. But had good form and aim considering 😂
  • My coworker wants to be held and entertained all day long
  • My coworker put a marker in her butt. She thought it was hilarious
  • My coworker just called me a poopy butt during the managers’ meeting.
  • My coworker glued tissues to the desk for fun
  • My coworker has started yelling "I love you!" at random times throughout the day.
  • My coworker makes subway announcements with toy trains on the floor of our “conference room.”
  • My coworker just climbed onto my head and shouted yippee ki yay
  • My coworker wants to sit on my lap during a web meeting.
  • My coworker cheerfully raises her hand when I call her name to do some work;)
  • All my coworkers do is cry for attention.
  • My coworkers have been hiding out in their offices behind locked doors, pretending to work. they seriously need haircuts--what's up with that low level of hygiene and grooming? They stink!

SSP families, thank you so much for contributing to this and helping bring smiles and laughter to all of our readers.  We needed that. We’re in this together!!!! Virtual hugs to all of you!
