5/17/22: The FDA has approved the covid vaccine booster for ages 5-11 yo, now what?
It's a great day today and we am sure you've heard. The FDA has approved the use of the 5-11 yo booster today so we want to give you more details about when and how SSP will offer it.
First of all, SSP is ready but we need to wait for the final approval from the CDC and to receive instructions. We know that children in this age category are eligible for a booster after at least 5 months from the second dose.
What's next?
SSP will wait for official instructions from the CDC and will email you with guidelines, appointment availability and precise instructions on how to schedule the appointment. SSP has just placed a big order to receive the booster doses and is awaiting for a reply from the NY State program. SSP will also plan an Instagram Live Q&A to answer all your questions. We will email you when we have the date.

The Covid-19 Vaccine Program at SSP: the latest update - 10/31/2021
We are excited about the SSP Covid Vaccine Program for ages 5-11 and we want to share the latest updates as the CDC will meet on Tuesday for the final approval and all our SSP families are anxious to schedule an appointment :-)
UPDATES as of 10/31/21:
1. SSP has not received a shipment notification as of today but the infrastructure to schedule appointments is ready.
2. As soon as SSP receives the first shipment we will send out an EMAIL about how to schedule appointments. In the meantime here are some guidelines.
3. If you have a flu vaccine appointment you won't need to schedule an extra one. Your child will be offered the Covid vaccine at that time.
4. If you have an Annual Visit/Preventive Care appointment already scheduled you won't need to book an extra one. Your child will be offered the Covid vaccine at that time.
5. It will NOT be possible to administer the Covid vaccine during same day sick visits.
6. SSP is thinking out of the box and will open on a Saturday for a Covid Vaccine Clinic (details will be emailed next week). We are looking for Volunteers from our SSP Families who are licensed to administer vaccines.
7. The Covid Vaccine program at SSP will be exclusively for SSP Families until we are able to vaccinate all eligible SSP patients. It will then open up to the general public.
Please WATCH this detailed short VIDEO for all details.
What you can do to help?
1. Share this post with your friends who come to SSP in case they missed it.
2. Avoid calling the office to ask for updates, we will communicate with you as usual.
3. Be on the lookout for an email this week about SCHEDULING PROTOCOLS.

- We were approved months ago by the DOH to administer the Covid-19 vaccine and we have been doing so for all adults ages 18yo and older. We did this to help the community and practice for you.
- Last week we were able to pre-order the Pfizer Covid vaccine for ages 5-11 but we have no information as to when it will be officially approved, available or when it will be shipped to us.
- We are keeping up with the news and we are working to create protocols to schedule visits for the Covid vaccine.

SSP Updated Guidelines for Wellness Visits in Person
SSP is focused n creating a safe environment for you to be able to come in person for your wellness visits. Here's what we have been doing and our latest guidelines and protocols:
1. We have not seen a sick patient in person since March 16th 2020. We have done this to be able to provide a safe environment to all patients who need to come in for wellness visits and vaccinations.
2. We are all wearing full PPE to protect you.
3. The office is sanitized often and the rooms are sanitized before and after each use.
4. We are limiting only 3 families at a time to be scheduled at the same time for a visit to limit the number of individuals at the office.
5. We ask that only 1 parent comes in with the child for the visit.
6. There's no wait time as no one waits in the waiting area.
7. We require that you wear your mask when you enter the office. Your child or baby is not required to wear a mask, sometimes they just won't keep it on and that is why we and you must wear masks, so we can protect them.
8. At arrival, only 1 family will be allowed in the front desk area for contact-less check-in. The front desk might ask you to wait outside for a few seconds while we clear the check in area for you.
9. SSP will continue to see sick patients virtually only until further notice.
